The BIG & small event shows art from the BIG to the small.
Featuring paintings from a number of local Portland Artists, LCAC Artist Janelle Schneider of HeartVisions Studio will have some work from the Constellations series in this fun show. Opening Thursday November 12, 2015, on view through December 28 7-10PM
The Red E café on Killingsworth is the best kept secret in the Portland art scene. Primarily a coffee roaster but also a gorgeous gallery, with lots of natural and carefully planned lighting, HUGE walls and hip ambiance.
Usually only very large work looks good in the 12 foot high room.
This show is an opportunity to see some very large work with smaller more accessible pieces.
A variety of artists show their smaller stuff in context with some of their BIG ART.
All through December. BIG art, small art, loose art. Accessible, giftable and gettable art. Including cards and prints.
See some of your favorite artist in a completely new way. BIG & small brings together 13 artists’ largest and smallest work in this stunning Gallery.
November’s print is titled, “We Make Walls and Windows” This is a signed 8 x 12 inch giclee print on bright white high rag content archival paper, with a 1 inch border all around. (a $50 value + postage)

For each new drawing a newsletter with a photo and some information about the print prize for that month will be sent.

Drawings will be held during the first week of the following month. The winner from November’s drawing will be chosen in the first week of December, and notified by email. (yay!)

*I SEE YOU is a mashup between an exquisite corpse
and ekphrastic art.
Exquisite Corpse is a practice invented by the dadaists.
A writer or artist continues a work by a previous writer/
artist, without seeing the entirety of the original piece.
Ekphrastic Art is a work of art inspired by another work
of art in a different medium.
Gathering Crows invited six poets to write an exquisite
corpse, based on the theme, “I See You.” Each poet
was given the last sentence from the previous writer.
As the poet finished their segment, it was sent to one
of 6 invited artists to interpret.

This sale will be held at NW Events in Hillsboro, Oregon, a spacious facility conveniently located off of Highway 26 at 2900 NW 229th Ave Hillsboro, OR 97124. The site is fully accessible and has restrooms and ample free parking. Admission is free!
Discardia is addressing my own internal conflicts with the contrariant imperatives of self image emerging in our culture as we promote and embrace social media.
My work incorporates discarded ephemera, but it’s how we Edit and Discard elements of ourselves that intrigue me. Social media platforms have created an internal catalyst to embellish and hyper-edit our daily personal interests and lives.
We are waiting for those the approbations of our contacts and their contacts.
We want to be touched by others, but there is no true physical touching involved. Aristotle wrote ….“touch is the sense common to all animal species”. We are not physically touched by the world we inhabit on social media. We are looking for the intellectual and emotional recognition, but I believe there is part of the sense, the most important sense—-touch, that is missing.
I draw with Discarded brushes and sticks. I draw on and incorporate Discarded maps, plastics and papers that once had a strong social significance. I draw on Duralar which doesn’t accept ink easily. These imperfect social landscapes embrace our imperfections…, those imperfections that I see as beautiful.
